Tours of the palace are offered daily, showcasing 52 varieties of onyx and marble, more than 8,000 square feet of 22 carat gold, hand-carved teakwood furnishings, handmade Austrian crystal chandeliers imported from Europe, mirrored ceilings, stained glass windows and original oil paintings and murals by Mark Arian.
The expansive grounds feature a rose garden with more than 100 varieties, a lily pond, fountains, and sweeping views of the rolling rural hills. Multiple gardens provide fresh produce.
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness is a worldwide movement founded by the late Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Founder Srila Prabhupada left India and visited America in 1965 at the age of 69. With less than $10 to his name, he created the Hare Krishna movement from a small storefront in New York City. Prabhupada traveled the globe 14 times in just 12 years. New Vrindaban is one of numerous communities worldwide dedicated to preserving his memory and fulfilling his divine vision.
Established in 1968 by devotees of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Palace of Gold was originally supposed to be a modest home for Prabhupada, but he died of natural causes in 1977 before the palace was completed.
